HONORING CONGRESSMAN EDWARD ROYBAL
Plaque dedication and tree planting ceremony in tribute to the late leader
LOS ANGELES - In honor of the late Edward R. Roybal, the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks has dedicated a bronze plaque and Brazilian Butterfly Tree at Ramona Hall in East Los Angeles, one of the Department's facilities.
Edward R. Roybal was a Los Angeles City Councilman for more than a decade (1949-1962), and then a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for 30 years (1963-1993). He has been hailed as a champion of civil rights and social justice.
The tribute was presented by the Department of Recreation and Parks, together with the Northeast Democratic Club of Los Angeles. Mr. Roybal passed away on October 24, 2005, at the age of 89. The dedication ceremony took place on February 10th, what would have been his 90th birthday.
